The Ministry of Health invites New Yorkers to throw any Topps ground beef patties due to possible contamination of E. coli. Topps, the manufacturer recalled the product in several states, including New York. If contaminated meat is consumed, the contaminating microbe - E. coli 0157: H7 - can cause severe diarrhea and kidney damage and even death. The latest information call the USDA is available here. New York City Health Department is investigating two possible illnesses related to this recall.Patients - a Staten Island girl and her mother - both consumed Topps hamburgers, but no case has been definitively linked to the meat through laboratory analysis.
